Deisgnated an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010, flamenco is an endangered art form. To receive this designation, an art must be traditional, contemporary and living, passed from generation to generation, and evolving in many communities in society at large. These arts must also be in danger of deterioration, disappearance, or destruction. UNESCO was formed by the United Nations with the conviction that peace cannot be achieved by political and economic agreements alone; the full participation of everyone in the global public space is needed for peace and development.
